National Sports Day & Sports Week Celebration at St. Francis Xavier School

September 12th, 2025

Every year, 29th August is celebrated across India as National Sports Day to honor the birth anniversary of the hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand. This year was extra special – it marked his 120th birth anniversary. At St. Francis Xavier School, we took this occasion to celebrate not just one day but a three-day Sports Week filled with fun, learning, and plenty of action.

Day 1: A Visit to Yuva Bharati Krirangan
The celebration kicked off on 27th August 2025 with an exciting trip to Yuva Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium). Selected students from different sections, along with their teachers, got the chance to explore the iconic stadium. Walking through one of the largest stadiums in the country was a thrilling experience for everyone. It was not just about sports infrastructure but also about soaking in the spirit of Indian sports.

Day 2: The Sports Quiz
On 28th August 2025, the focus shifted indoors as students gathered in the school hall for a spirited Sports Quiz. Students from classes IV to XII participated with enthusiasm, answering questions about sports history, famous players, and recent achievements. The quiz was more than a competition – it was a celebration of knowledge, quick thinking, and passion for games.

Day 3: Games, Energy & Inspiration
The final day, 29th August 2025, was packed with energy and excitement!
• The girls competed in Kho-Kho matches that brought out speed, strategy, and teamwork.
• The boys of classes IX to XII battled it out in a thrilling Tug of War, cheered on loudly by their friends.
• Students of classes VI to VIII took part in Agility Training, testing their stamina, flexibility, and coordination.

Before the games began, there was a special presentation on Major Dhyan Chand. His journey and achievements reminded everyone why he is remembered as the Hockey Wizard of India. His story truly set the tone for the day, inspiring the young athletes to give their best.

Wrapping Up
The three-day celebration was a perfect mix of fun, fitness, and learning. Students not only enjoyed the events but also took home lessons of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship — the true essence of sports.

The Sports Week at St. Francis Xavier School wasn’t just about winning or losing, but about celebrating the spirit of sports and honoring the legacy of a legend who brought glory to our nation.
