Not Just Laws and Lawyers: Why the Future of Law Looks Brighter Than Ever

Ever thought law was all about black coats, dusty courtrooms, and endless paperwork? Think again.

At St. Francis Xavier School, we recently hosted someone who completely changed the way our students look at the legal world. Professor Shardool Kulkarni—Assistant Professor at BML Munjal University—joined us for an eye-opening session titled “The Future in Law”. And trust us, it wasn’t your average career talk.

Law Isn’t One Size Fits All

Professor Kulkarni kicked things off by busting the myth that law is a single-track career. Instead, he painted a picture of a vast legal landscape—ranging from constitutional and criminal law to environmental and corporate law. His message was clear: no matter what stream you’re in—science, commerce, or humanities—there’s a space for you in law if you’re curious, driven, and ready to question the world around you.

The Legal Profession Is Evolving—Fast

One of the most exciting parts of the session? Learning how law is changing with the times. From cybercrime and artificial intelligence to international disputes and intellectual property, the legal world is becoming more dynamic than ever. Professor Kulkarni urged students to see technology not as a threat, but as a powerful tool—one that’s transforming how lawyers think, work, and create impact.

Forget the image of lawyers buried in law books. Today’s legal professionals are shaping conversations on global ethics, innovation, and social justice.

Law and Morality: Strange Bedfellows or Soulmates?

At one point, the conversation took a more philosophical turn. What happens when the law says one thing, but your conscience says another? Can something be legal but still be wrong?

This sparked some real thinking among our students. Professor Kulkarni helped us navigate this tricky terrain—showing how the best legal minds don’t just follow rules, they challenge them, question them, and sometimes even help rewrite them.

When Society Shapes the Law—And Vice Versa

From social justice movements to public protests, it’s often people who drive legal change. But it works both ways—laws can shape the future of societies too. Professor Kulkarni highlighted this powerful two-way relationship and reminded us that law isn’t just about courts and codes. It’s about people, progress, and possibilities.

Takeaway? Law is More Than a Career—It’s a Calling

This session wasn’t just informative; it was inspiring. Professor Kulkarni didn’t just talk about what lawyers do—he showed us why they do it. For many of our students, it was a moment of clarity. A realization that law isn’t just about careers—it’s about change. It’s about stepping into a space where you can make a real difference.

So yes, the future is bright for law. And who knows? Some of that future might just be sitting right now in one of our classrooms.
