Summer camps in schools, like the one recently held at St. Francis Xavier, are far more than just a way to fill the holidays. They are carefully designed experiences that offer immense benefits for a child’s holistic development, complementing and extending the learning that happens during the regular academic year.

1.Preventing “Summer Slide” and Promoting Continued Learning: The long summer break can sometimes lead to a “summer slide” where students forget some of what they learned. School summer camps combat this by offering engaging, hands-on activities that reinforce academic concepts in a fun, pressure-free environment.
2. Fostering Holistic Development (Beyond Academics): Summer camps provided a platform for: Creativity and Innovation: Activities like T-shirt stencilling, clay moulding, umbrella painting, and dance workshops encouraged children to explore their artistic talents, think outside the box, and express themselves freely.
The children delved into various Craft Activities like T-shirt stencilling, umbrella painting and imaginative clay moulding on canvas. and Non-Flame Cooking Sessions: The children enjoyed focused Pasting & Colouring activities, refining their fine motor skills and artistic flair.
Students of Classes IV-V plunged into an engaging Drama Workshop, exploring self-expression and teamwork through theatrical play. The school hall literally came alive with rhythm and enthusiasm as students danced their hearts out, learning expressive movements in a fun and joyful setting. With a focus on active participation, camps got children moving, reducing screen time and promoting physical well-being through dance, games, and various hands-on tasks. These activities enhanced their emotional intelligence.
3. Enhancing Social Skills and Building Connections: Summer camps are fantastic for nurturing crucial social skills like Making New Friends, Teamwork and Collaboration,
4. Cultivating Independence and Self-Confidence: Away from the usual routine and sometimes the constant supervision of parents, summer camps provide a safe space for children to boost self-esteem.
5. Discovering New Interests and Passions: The diverse range of activities offered at a summer camp, from art to cooking to dance, exposes children to hobbies they might not encounter in their regular school curriculum. This can spark new passions and help them discover hidden talents, broadening their horizons and giving them a sense of purpose.
6. Providing a Break from Technology: In an increasingly digital world, summer camps offer a much-needed opportunity for children to unplug from screens and engage with the real world, nature, and face-to-face interactions.
Our Summer Camp 2025-26, held on May 19th and 20th, was an absolute triumph, transforming our campus into a hub of joy and learning for students from Classes I to V. It truly captured the essence of summer: fun, exploration, and endless possibilities!
The camp concluded on a delightful note with a special Movie Screening of Bambi, providing a perfect moment of relaxation and shared joy.
A Roaring Success: Parents and Children Share the Joy!
The feedback from our parents has been overwhelmingly positive!
