Social Media Awareness Day

July 11th, 2025

Social Media Awareness Day, generally observed on June 30, was first launched by Mashable in 2010 with the purpose of emphasizing the impact of social media on global communication, business, culture, and daily life. This year, our school observed Social Media Awareness Day, not just as a date on the calendar, but as an opportunity to reflect on how we use social platforms and how they shape our lives.

Why This Day Matters
Social media is more than selfies and stories, it can shape opinions, amplify voices, and sometimes, blur the line between reality and perception. For students, it’s not only a space to express, but also a place where cyberbullying, misinformation, and digital fatigue can creep in.

By observing this day, we –

  1. Recognize Social Media’s Role: It honours how platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and others have revolutionized the way people connect, share information, and interact worldwide.
  2. Promote Digital Literacy: It encourages users to be aware of how social media works — including understanding how to navigate digital spaces, assess the credibility of online content, and engage with digital tools safely and responsibly.
  3. Encourage Responsible Use: It is a reminder to use social media positively, ethically, and mindfully — especially given its influence on mental health, self-image, and public discourse.
  4. Celebrate Online Communities: It acknowledges how social media has helped build communities, support movements and empower marginalized voices.
  5. Support Business and Innovation: It recognizes how it has become a powerful tool for marketing, customer engagement, and innovation across industries.

Our celebration in school was both informative and fun:

  • Know the Social Media: Members of the Computer Club from classes 11 and 12 went to classes 4 and 5 and educated the students about the Do’s and Do Not’s of various social media tools in an interactive way emphasising on “Think Before You Click” into the conversation. Also topic of digital safety and screen-time balance helped students understand practical ways to protect themselves online
  • Power Point Presentation: Mr. Avishek Gupta and Mr. Kalyan Roy demonstrated a power point presentation on Social Media Awareness to the students of classes VI-X. Later, our respected Principal Sir joined in and enlightened the students with his valuable inputs.

What We Learned

Awareness is the first step to empowerment. By being conscious of our digital habits, we can:

  • Set healthy screen-time boundaries.
  • Share responsibly and respectfully.
  • Support others in building safer, kinder online communities.
